The Florida Gators basketball starts their season off with a win against the North Florida Ospreys. The Gators come into this season with very high expectations after signing a top ten recruiting class and landing the top graduate transfer in the country. Virginia Tech graduate transfer Kerry Blackshear Jr. had a terrific Gator debut. Some of Florida’s highly touted freshmen made contributions in the win. Florida started the game slow as they were 0-7 on the field before making their first field goal. It was a shaky first game for Florida as they struggled shooting from the three and missed a lot of easy layups. Here is the recap for the Florida Gators vs. North Florida Ospreys game.
North Florida Ospreys
The North Florida Ospreys starting lineup against the Florida Gators featured Ivan Gandia-Rosa at point guard, J.T. Escobar at shooting guard, Garrett Sams at small forward, Carter Hendricksen at power forward and Wajid Aminu at center. UNF gave the Gators all they could but it wasn’t enough to pull off the upset. J.T. Escobar led the Ospreys in scoring 15 points on the night. Garrett Sams also had a nice game as he scored 14 points and six rebounds. The Ospreys struggled shooting as they were 36.8% from the field and 60% from the free throw line.
The Florida Gators starting lineup against the North Florida Ospreys featured Tre Mann at point guard, Andrew Nembhard at shooting guard, Noah Locke at small forward, Keyontae Johnson at power forward and Kerry Blackshear Jr. as the man in the middle. Blackshear was dominant in his season opener as he scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. Freshman Tre Mann had a very productive collegiate debut as he put up 11 points with four rebounds. Noah Locke put up 11 points and shot 42% from the floor.
The Florida Gators will be home again as they take on one of their most hated rivals. Florida will host the Florida State Seminoles this Sunday at Exactech Arena. FSU currently have a five-game winning streak against the Gators. Florida does lead in the all-time series as they have 43-26 record versus the Florida State Seminoles.
