The Florida Gators have snapped their three game losing streak as they beat the Florida State Seminoles 4-2. This was the second time Florida has beaten the Noles as they won two weeks ago in Gainesville. Florida also extended their winning streak against FSU to ten games and have won 16 out of the 18 games. FSU head coach Mike Martin has a 76-76 record against the Gators. In the game, Florida counted on their pitchers as two of their freshmen dominated on the mound.
Florida State Seminoles
The Florida State Seminoles continue to have their issues against Florida with another loss to the Gators. Left-handed pitcher Jonah Scolaro got the start for the Florida State Seminoles. Scolaro threw four innings allowing three hits, one unearned run, two walks and two strikeouts. Antonio Velez got the loss for the Noles as he pitched one third of an inning allowing the game-winning run. At the plate, the Florida State Seminoles struggled on offense as they only scored two runs on five hits. Leadoff hitter Mike Salvatore had a huge night for the Noles as he went 3-5 with a two-run home run. Reese Albert and Drew Mendoza were the other two Noles that got hits as both reached first on singles.
The Florida Gators were back in the win column against one of their toughest rivals. Freshman right-handed pitcher Nolan Crisp got the start for the Florida Gators. Crisp had a nice outing against FSU as he threw five innings allowing three hits, two runs, two walks and four strikeouts. Christian Scott got the win as he pitched 3.1 innings allowing one hit, no runs and five strikeouts. The Florida Gators lineup didn’t have a great night at the plate but came through in clutch situations. Brady McConnell went 2-4 with a two run double. Kendrick Calilao also went 2-4 with a double and base knock. Jacob Young went 1-5 with a single and Austin Langworthy went 1-3 with a RBI double and walk.
The Florida Gators will take a few days off before their back on the diamond for conference play. The Florida Gators will host the Alabama Crimson Tide for a three-game weekend series. UF will look to turn things around as they currently have a 1-5 conference record. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Tommy Mace will get the start for the Florida Gators.
