After dropping the first two games of the series, the Miami Marlins rebounded and split the four game series with the Washington Nationals. The Fish were able to split the series with a terrific pitching performance by Jose Urena. The Nationals lineup had no answer for Urena and the rest of Nationals lineup. Rookie Brian Anderson had a good day at the plate with his 35th multi-hit game on the season. Veteran third baseman Martin Prado was also on fire he was responsible for two of the five runs scored.
It was a rough Sunday for the Washington Nationals as they fail to win on the road against the Marlins. Right-handed pitcher Jeremy Hellickson got the start and loss for the Washington Nationals. Hellickson threw 4.2 innings allowing eight hits, five runs (three earned) and four strikeouts. Relief pitcher Sammy Solis pitched well in the bottom of the eight striking out one and no hits. The Nationals pitching wasn’t great on Sunday but it wouldn’t have mattered since their offense didn’t produce. All-star Bryce Harper was the only National that played well as he went 1-2 with two walks. Matt Adams went 1-4 with a single in the top of the ninth.
The Miami Marlins close the home series with two win against the Washington Nationals. Right-handed pitcher Jose Urena got the start and win for the Miami Marlins. Urena did great as he threw six innings allowing one hit, no runs, four walks and five strikeouts. Veteran Brad Zeigler dominated out of the bullpen as he pitched one inning allowing no hits and two K’s. At the plate, the Fish had a good day scoring five runs on nine hits. Rookie Brian Anderson hit well as he went 2-3 with a hit by pitch and two runs. Martin Prado went 2-4 with a double and two RBIs. Miguel Rojas went 2-4 with a RBI double and Jose Urena went 1-2 with a RBI single to help himself.
The Miami Marlins will be back on the road against another familiar opponent. The Fish will be in Atlanta to take on the Braves for a three-game series. Left-handed pitcher Wei-Ying Chen will be on the mound for the Miami Marlins. Right-handed pitcher Julio Teheran will get the start for the Atlanta Braves.
